Option 1: The Full Package (cat D, and CPC)

If you’re looking to become a professional coach and bus driver for hire and reward, you’ll need to ensure you have both category D and Driver CPC under your belt.

Our experienced and approved instructors, accompanied by our knowledgeable support staff, are on hand to provide a tailored and strategic approach to ensure you pass with ease and confidence.

We can guide you through the whole process of passing the medical through to passing the practical and theoretical driving tests.

The cost quoted above includes the following:

A medical assessment (undertaken by a local GP at our premises in Great Bookham, Surrey)
Assistance with applying for your provisional D licence
Official theory training material
All theory tests booked and confirmed
5 days of practical driving tuition
1 day Driver CPC Module 4

The above process takes on average approximately 8 weeks from start to finish. Prices quoted include VAT and test fees. There are no hidden extras or nasty surprises.

Worried about course fees? You can spread the cost of your payment with our finance partner, Pay4Later. Further details available on our website.

Option 2: 5 Days Practical Training Only Cat D

This 5 day practical training option is ideal if you’ve already passed your medical, obtained your category D provisional licence and have the PCV theory test under your belt.

You’ll also have plenty of opportunity to practice the trailer manoeuvers at our dedicated off-road facility at Addlestone, Surrey before taking your test in Guildford.

Option 3: Pass Protection

In an ideal world all students would pass their category D training first time. While many do go on to achieve this, some don’t quite reach the standard required on the day.

We understand this and that’s why EP Training offers a Pass Protection scheme to all category D students who feel they need added insurance and security.

Our Pass Protection scheme will cover you for a further two re-tests for added peace of mind.

Option 4: Cat D Without Driver CPC

Here at EP Training we understand that you may want to drive a bus or coach, but not for hire and reward purposes.

If this is the case, we’ve devised a shaved down version of our category D training that simply removes the Initial Driver CPC element from the course. This means instead of completing 4 modules of training, you’ll only complete two.

There may be other circumstances that allow you to be exempt from Driver CPC training. If you feel this is the case and wish to discuss your training options with us, contact one of our experts for a no obligation chat.

All prices we quote include Vat and all test fees where applicable.

Course Overview

Category D (PCV) training is the latest addition to our training programme. This course, new for 2017, follows a similar syllabus to our highly popular LGV/HGV practical courses in Surrey.

Overseen and guided by EP’s DVSA approved tutors, our Category D training is conducted using our specially adapted bus from our vehicle fleet. Our courses are tailored to individual students. Whether it’s additional manoeuvring exercises at our off-road facilities or simply more time out on the designated test routes around Guildford, we’ve got it covered.

We understand that no two students are the same. Our personalised approach to practical training has gained us a reputation of one of the top professional driver training companies in the UK. A position we’ve held for over 35 years.

By successfully completing and passing our Category D training, students over the age of 20 will receive their Driver Qualification Cards (DQCs) which will allow them to drive a coach or bus with more than 8 seats for hire and reward (subject to Initial Driver CPC training).

Category D Training: Step by Step

Just like HGV training, our bus and coach courses are conducted in a number of steps. These include:

  • A medical assessment
  • Completion of provisional licence fee
  • Multiple choice theory test
  • Practical driving tuition and tests

Training courses can be taken with or without Initial Driver CPC. Although Driver CPC is now a statutory requirement in the UK, there are certain exemptions and not all drivers will require this element of the training. We’re always on hand to help students choose the correct route.

D+E Training

Additional, relevant categories on a professional driving licence are always beneficial, whether now or in the future. That’s why we also offer D+E (trailer) training.

Our two day supplemental course can be commenced following receipt of a licence with Category D acquisition. Two days of practical training are concluded with a test on the second day. If successful, students will then be able to tow a trailer that weights in excess of 750 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) behind their bus or coach.

We have teamed up with finance provider, Pay4Later to offer an affordable, interest free package on selected bus and coach courses.

A finance application can be completed during the checkout stage of booking a course online. Applicants receive a decision within minutes of applying.
