EP Training has been accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) to run ADR courses that cover all classes. We are only one of a few organisations in the UK to provide this service.
The nine classes we have been approved to host are as follows:
- Class 1: Explosives
- Class 2: Gases
- Class 3: Flammable Liquids
- Class 4: Flammable Solids
- Class 5: Oxidising Agents, Organic Peroxides
- Class 6: Toxic/Infectious
- Class 7: Radioactives
- Class 8: Corrosives
- Class 9: Miscellaneous
Our ADR courses run at least once a month. Due to demand and popularity we regularly add further dates to the ADR course booking section of our website. The one day explosives module (class 1) and radio actives module (class 7) run consecutively, approximately every six to eight weeks. These specialised classes will need to be taken as separate courses as they are not included as part of our intensive packages.
ADR – What’s Involved?
In order to transport dangerous goods by road, drivers need to hold an ADR Vocational Training Certificate (VTC) which is valid for five years. A VTC is issued once a series of ADR modules have been completed.
The mandatory modules are as follows:
Core – This must be completed by all drivers, regardless of what class of goods will be transported. Typical topics within this module include first aid, fire and emergency procedures and legislation. This core element is taught for a duration of 1.5 days and is included within EP’s ADR intensive training courses.
Tanker – Aimed at students looking to drive tankers at a professional level.
Packaged Goods – Required by drivers of all packaged goods and includes dangerous loads within boxed vehicles, curtain siders and tippers.
Students will then sit a series of multiple choice examinations that cover the classes required according to their chosen ADR route.
21st Century Training
EP Training is leading the way in reducing waiting times for VTCs. Our SQA approved examination suite has allowed us to implement e-testing for our ADR programme. Once the exams are completed, students are immediately notified of their results and if successful, the VTC is issued within a matter of days. No more lengthy waiting times for an ADR licence!
We offer the following ADR courses which offer combinations of the Core, Tanker, Packaged Goods and classes modules:
Covers the Core and Packaged Goods mandatory modules over 3.5 days. Students will study and sit e-testing examinations for all classes except Class 1: Explosives and Class 7: Radioactives (which are sat separately).
Running for a full week (Monday to Friday), Code T1 is aimed at students wanting to take the road tanker or tank container driver route. It covers both Core and Tanker mandatory modules plus Class 3: Flammable Liquids only.
Students who are unsure which route to take can enrol on Code C1 which will qualify them in all areas of hazardous goods transportation. This 5 day combined course covers the Core, Packaged Goods and Tanker mandatory modules with classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 9 inclusive.
Aimed at potential LPG tanker drivers, this course covers Core, Tanker and Class 2: Gases.
ADR In-house Training
Looking to train several drivers at the same time? Our affordable, in-house solutions (subject to suitable classroom and training area facilities for our instructors) are a cost-efficient alternative.

All petrol tanker drivers must now hold a Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP). We’ve has added this 2 hour compulsory module to our ADR training menu. We have courses running regularly throughout the year. The PDP is valid for 5 years but a refresher course is required every year.
ADR with added Driver CPC
As well as ADR training, there will still be a requirement for drivers to sit the statutory 35 hours of Driver CPC every five years, as required by the majority of professional HGV and PCV drivers in the UK.
That’s why, with all of our ADR courses, students will get Driver CPC completely free!
Our courses have been approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for the following Driver CPC additions:
- Complete and pass our Code C1 course and receive 35 hours of Driver CPC. 28 hours are included as part of the course and students are invited back for a further day’s Driver CPC (7 hours) completely free of charge.
- Complete and pass our Code P1 course and receive 21 hours of Driver CPC.
- Complete and pass our Code T1 or our Code LPG1 course and receive 14 hours of Driver CPC.
