Our company has been delivering practical HGV courses in the Surrey area for many decades. Since our incorporation back in 1980, thousands of students have passed through our doors and have successfully gained their HGV driving licences.
Many of them are now out on the road enjoying their new career behind the wheel. Some have returned to us to obtain additional professional qualifications.
We’re very proud to say that our trusted reputation has earned us the number one spot for providing HGV training in Surrey.
All of our tutors, many of whom have been or still are professional drivers themselves, are DVSA approved and can provide tuition in all LGV categories: Category C1 (7.5 tonnes), C1E (7.5 tonnes with trailer), C (rigid) and C+E (articulated / drawbar).
Our vehicle fleet is made up of modern, well equipped and maintained HGVs. Since the amendments to LGV licence acquisition back in April 2014, we also provide students with a choice of automatic or manual vehicles for the duration of their C or C+E course.
Vehicles will be loaded with IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) filled with water. Learning to drive in an HGV that’s laden is a mandatory requirement and, crucially, it also offers the opportunity to drive a fully loaded vehicle and experience how it feels and handles.
Finance Your HGV Course
While we offer quality courses at competitive prices we appreciate that they may not be affordable to all. Many students are prevented from entering the professional driving industry because of the initial outlay. That’s why EP Training has become FCA approved. This means that we are able to offer interest free finance on selected practical HGV courses (subject to status – terms and conditions apply).
Finance can be arranged easily and instantly with our partner, Pay4Later, via the shopping portal on our website.
The Complete HGV Package
Obtaining an HGV licence is achieved in several steps, beginning with a medical and ending with the receipt of a Driver Qualification Card as well as an amended driving licence.
In between these stages are various modules and examinations (including Initial Driver CPC where applicable) to pass, paperwork to complete and driving tuition.
This all may sound a little daunting but EP Training are on hand to assist. Our staff can help fill out the paperwork, arrange the medical and provide all the necessary practical and theoretical training ahead of the exams.
Initial Driver CPC
Students that go on to use their vocational HGV licence for hire and reward purposes will need to complete an ‘Initial Driver CPC’ course.
Initial Driver CPC is covered under modules 2 and 4 of the practical LGV course structure and once the initial CPC course element has been passed, students will receive their Driver Qualification Cards (DQCs) which will be valid for five years. Prior to the expiry date of their DQCs, students will either need to enrol on five separate Periodic Driver CPC training courses or a single intensive course in order have their cards re-issued.
Further details on our Periodic Driver CPC courses can be found on the dedicated website page.

All of our LGV courses are of FIVE days duration to include the LGV test on the last day of fifth.
You may find cheaper courses advertised on the internet, but many are of FOUR days duration and include the LGV test on the fourth day. This means you only receive THREE days of actual training.
If you fail after 3 days training you will require a re-test, which can cost up to £300.00. This can work out more expensive than attending one of our 5 day courses.
